Ms. Laura J. Downey graduated from FAMU in 2001 with a Masters of Journalism. Prior to attending FAMU she received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University.

In 2009, Ms. Downey joined FAMU's School of Journalism and Graphic communication as a professor and adviser for Journey Magazine.  

In part one of her interview she discusses the differences of attending and HBCU and Predominately White Institute (PWI). She also talks about the kind of relationships teachers have with theie students at HBCUs.

In part two of the interview she discusses how funding affects campus resources and the classroom. She also talks about how recent allegations of hazing will affect the image of FAMU and all HBCUs in the future.
